Clubs and activities outside the curriculum

We are very proud of the range of extra curricular activities that are offered at Corbridge Middle School. The generous commitment of our staff ensures that the interests of all children are catered for. We arrange visits to outdoor activity centres, visits abroad and field trips. Music activities include choir, wind band and orchestra. Our musicians perform at a variety of special occasions and participate in local festivals. There is a wide range of sporting activities to choose from including netball, cricket, rugby, table tennis and football for girls. We have clubs for French, Art, Science, Dance and Computing as well as clubs which develop children’s wider interest and focus of developing the emotional aspects of being a successful learner like Friendship Club. Over two thirds of our children participate in extra-curricular activities. Our Winter timetable for extra curricular activities is distributed to children in September. A further updated timetable is distributed at the start of the Spring and Summer term.

⭐ Club Spotlight: Friendship Club

Friendship Club is a welcoming and calm lunchtime club available each week for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 pupils. It provides a safe, inclusive space where pupils can make new friends or simply enjoy spending time with existing ones.

The club has a strong craft and games focus, helping to engage all pupils through hands-on, creative activities. Seasonal crafts, games, and model-making are offered throughout the year, giving pupils something new and exciting to look forward to each week. Popular activities include crafting with lollipop sticks, pipe cleaners, and creating colourful pom poms.

Friendship Club is a relaxed, friendly environment where everyone is welcome, and pupils are encouraged to be creative, social, and themselves. It’s a fantastic lunchtime option for pupils who enjoy crafting, playing games, and connecting with others in a supportive setting.

⭐ Club Spotlight: Year 5 Computer Club

The Year 5 Computer Club has quickly become a lunchtime favourite! Held weekly, this club provides a dedicated space for students to dive deeper into the world of technology beyond their regular classroom lessons.

Each week features a specific learning focus, ranging from game design and digital art to hardware exploration and complex problem-solving. By revisiting these skills weekly, students have the opportunity to move from basic digital literacy to becoming confident, independent creators.

The club isn’t just about screens, though; it’s a hub for collaboration and critical thinking. Whether they are working together to debug a stubborn script or sharing shortcuts they’ve discovered, the students are building a supportive community of young tech experts. It’s been a joy to watch their confidence grow as they tackle new challenges each session!

To keep our young tech leaders moving forward, we’ve structured our upcoming sessions around four key “Skills of the Term.” Each Term focuses on different pillars of the computing curriculum, ensuring a well-rounded digital education in an extra-curricular setting.
